In 1999 I travelled to the Ukraine to photograph the Chernobyl power plant. Everything within the surrounding 30km exclusion zone,
including the air itself, seemed dead there. It was depressing to see one of the deepest scars we have put on the Earth.
I find the pictures I took there lifeless and flat. I rarely look at them.
In contrast: these images were all taken in the wonderful city of Kiev, Ukraine, on the same trip. I imagine them as beautiful, mysterious book-covers.
